Nicotinamide riboside chloride (NIAGEN) is the chloride salt form of nicotinamide riboside (NR). NR is a new pyridine-nucleoside form of vitamin B3 that acts as a precursor of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD) or NAD +. NIAGEN is generally recognized as safe (GRAS) in the United States for use in food. Nicotinamide riboside chloride is a crystalline form of nicotinamide riboside (NR) chloride. Nicotinamide riboside chloride increases NAD [+] levels and activates SIRT1 and SIRT3, culminating in enhanced oxidative metabolism and protection against metabolic abnormalities induced by a high-fat diet. Nicotinamide riboside chloride (NIAGEN) is the chloride salt form of nicotinamide riboside (NR). NR is a pyridine-nucleoside form of vitamin B3 that functions as a precursor of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide or NAD +.NR blocks ex vivo degeneration of surgically severed dorsal root ganglion neurons and protects against noise-induced hearing loss in live mice.
